For the first
time in more than 20 years, during the first week of November the
Argentina Finn Class sailed the Buenos Aires Week event (ISAF Grade 3
event) with six boats on the line. This event is the biggest in our
country for One Design Classes and this year about 800 sailors from
Argentina and neighbor countries. This was a great opportunity for us to
promote the Finn that is not a very common class around here. During and
after the event many people showed interest on the boat and we are looking
forward to have some new Finn sailors very soon.
Five races were scheduled and all of them were sailed under wonderful
conditions: excellent wind, good waves, great weather and a perfect
organization. Even we were six classes sailing on the same course, all
races started on time and without any trouble between the different
classes. The credit for the organization goes for the Yacht Club Argentino.
After the five races, Hernan Mones Ruiz won the championship in excellent
shape. Even this was his first Finn regatta (using a borrowed boat),
Hernan showed great control over the boat, good speed and perfect tactics.
Hernan has sailed IMS boats for many years and won several championships
but right after the races, he bought a Finn ! Congratulations and welcome
to the Class for him !
