TAPIO NIRKKO
one of the best Finn class international hopes dominated a solid 80 boat
fleet representing 11 nations at the 2009 Cannes International Regatta.
Nirkko, now 25, already competed in the 2008 Olympics and
started his Finn career 4 years ago. He won the regatta 9 pts clear of
German hope Jan Kurfeld from Rostock, and Swede Bjorn Allanson in third.
Nirkko and Allanson both used the latest WB sail designed
sails. This specific technology was developed 4 years ago and is in
favour with the best Scandinavian and Olympic sailors. It uses High
Tech Contender fabric which is both light and long lasting.
The winner also uses Devoti boats.
Six races were held in all round conditions with two races
around 20 to 25 knots
