Christmas only comes once a year, but for one Finn sailor Christmas will come early this year, with one of the most prestigious and famous trophies in sailing there for the taking over the next six days at the 2019 Finn Gold Cup, sailed from the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, in Melbourne, Australia.

The 2019 Finn Gold Cup was officially opened by John Bertrand AO at Friday evening’s opening ceremony at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club in Melbourne, Australia. More than 60 Finn sailors from 22 nations have gathered in Melbourne for the penultimate class world championship before next summer’s Olympic Games.
For much of his life, Andres Lage from Venezuela has been chasing a dream - to sail at the Olympic Games. That dream finally became real last week after he qualified for Tokyo 2020 in the Finn Class following the South American Continental Qualifier, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 25-30 November.
Ready Steady Tokyo, the Olympic Test Event concluded Thursday after the medal race was abandoned because of insufficient wind. Zsombor Berecz, from Hungary, had already secured the gold a day early, while Nicholas Heiner, from The Netherlands, took the silver and Giles Scott, from Britain, took the bronze.
