Day 1: Finn Grand Slam Silvaplana suffers wind failure on opening day
Undoubtedly the most beautiful destination on the 2026 World Tour for Finns Grand Slam, Leg 6: Grand Slam Silvaplana opened on Thursday with no races possible. Around 55 sailors from 9 countries are taking part in the Swiss Championship, the sixth from Nine Grand Slam legs.
However, the famous and supposedly, reliable thermal Maloja wind, did not materialise on the opening day. A high-altitude opposing wind produced a light north-easterly most of the day and although there were signs that the wind would switch mid-afternoon, it never developed. The sailors sat around all in the hot sunshine, swapping stories and doing some boat maintenance.
The event continues until Sunday.

Day 2: Simon Bovay leads Finn Grand Slam Silvaplana as racing finally gets underway
Simon Bovay took three wins from four races on the second day of the 2026 Finn Grand Slam Silvaplana, the 2026 Swiss Championship. Peter Theurer is in second with Chistoph Burger in third. 54 Finn sailors from eight nations are taking part.
After Thursday was lost with no wind, Friday delivered perfect conditions with the Maloja wind filling soon after 11.00 and building to 16-18 knots for four races. Remarkably every start got away first time.
Peter Theurer led the opening race for a while, before Bovay got past on the last downwind. Bovay also won the next two races, the third by a considerable margin. By the four the race the wind was becoming a little more unstable with some bigger shifts. Germany’s Jonus Jung played the right side up he first beat to round ahead and was never headed to win.
Racing continues until Sunday.

Day 3: Second day of no racing
For the second time this week the wind engine at Silvaplana failed to start up. A three-hour postponement in the hope things might change led to nothing with an abandonment following soon after.
While waiting around on Saturday, the fleet were treated to an impromptu live concert performance by some Swiss sailors, free 'after race' beers as well as drug testing by the Swiss OC, not necessarily in that order. The weather is also, apparently unusually warm for this time of year, with tales of snow at this time from those who remember. While the championship is secure with four races sailed, one more is needed for a discard, with three races scheduled for Sunday, and a much better weather forecast.

Day 4: Simon Bovey wins Grand Slam Silvaplana
Simon Bovay dominated the fourth and final day of the Finn Grand Slam Silvaplana – the 2026 Swiss Finn Championship. He took line honours in all three races and would have sown up the title with a race to spare albeit for an early start in the first race of the day. Peter Theurer took seconds with Christoph Burger in third.
After Saturday was lost with no wind, the Maloja wind arrived at 12.00 and allowed three races to be sailed in 10-15 knots, the last race starting just minutes before the 1500 deadline. Because of Bovay’s OCS, Burger had the best of the day with a 3-2-2, but t was not enough to pass Theurer. While Bovay was quick upwind, it was his downwind speed that made the difference, twice pulling through to the lead on the first run.
