Little change at top for first Finn World Ranking of 2024

France’s Laurent Hay has increased his lead at the top of the latest release of the Finn World Ranking to 200 points following the first regattas in 2024. Hay maintains the top place for the fifth time in a row. Portugal’s Filipe Silva remains second with Bartosz Szydłowski, from Poland, in third.

Despite 12 regattas from the World Tour for Finns being included in the new release, there is very little change at the top. The only change in the top 10 is the Peter Peet, from The Netherlands replaces Bas de Waal.

The latest ranking list includes many national championships from late 2023 and early 2024 along with some secondary events and Semaine International de Finn in February that attracted a 65 boat fleet and was narrowly won by Hay to help maintain his top position in the ranking.

The Finn World Ranking List now includes 1,324 sailors from 38 countries, an increase of 115 sailors since the last release in June.

Current Masters champion, Filipe Silva, from Portugal, moves up to second overall, while Marc Allain des Beauvais, from France drops one place to third.

Zsigmond Kantor, from Hungary is the biggest mover into the top 10, up to seventh from 91st, while Antal Székely is up to sixth from 43rd. Finally, Bas de Waal, from The Netherlands, moves up to ninth from 13th.

Since the last release the World Tour for Finns has taken in another 24 events across 16 countries including the Silver Cup and the Finn European Masters.

The Finn World Ranking list was created in October 2022 as part of the class’s long term global event strategy designed around inclusivity, cross border cooperation with calendars and with a focus on supporting national associations across the world. Through the World Tour for Finns the class has a unified platform to promote events, sponsors and sailors. It is based on each sailor’s best five events over a two year rolling system and aims to include results from as many events around the world as possible along with the major class championships. A full explanation of the platform can be found here.

The next Finn World Ranking list will be issued in March 2024.

Finn Class launches new World Ranking with more than a thousand sailors

After months of development, the Finn Class is excited to announce the launch of its new World Ranking list. The new ranking platform includes more than one thousand sailors from 37 nations, and provides an excellent illustration of the spread, popularity and energy within the class at the moment. Laurent Hay, from France, becomes the first Finn World No.1 using the new platform, with a very small points margin over Filipe Silva, from Portugal, with The Netherlands’ Bas de Waal in third. In the top 20 alone there are 11 nations.
